Compact Ultrafiltration Membrane Element

Advantages of Compact Ultrafiltration UNF Membrane Element

●The membrane element does not undergo phase change during operation and can be operated at room temperature or low pressure, resulting in lower energy consumption during operation;

●During the concentration and separation process, the membrane element will not cause any material quality changes and will not cause secondary pollution;

●It is possible to classify and separate substances with different molecular weights;

●The ultrafiltration membrane will not have impurities falling off during operation, ensuring the purity of the ultrafiltration solution;

●The ultrafiltration membrane has the characteristic of selective separation, which can retain mineral elements that are beneficial to the human body;

Works of UF Membrane Element

Ultrafiltration (UF) is a membrane filtration process similar to Reverse Osmosis, using hydrostatic pressure to force water through a semi-permeable membrane element. In this method we use Pentair X-Flow hollow fibers.

UF is a barrier to suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, endotoxins, and other pathogens to produce water with very high purity and low SDI.

A pressure difference is the driving force for the membrane. The pressure difference allows the water to flow through the pores of the membrane. All matter larger than the pores is retained on the surface of the membrane. This process is called pore size exclusion. The membrane is called semi-permeability because it allows water to pass while it retains other substances. The pore size of the membrane determines the size of the particles that are being removed. If the pores are micrometer sized the membrane is called a microfiltration membrane, if the pores are smaller than a tenth of a micrometer the membrane us called an ultrafiltration membrane.

Micro- and Ultrafiltration membrane elements are capable of removing suspended solids, bacteria and larger micro organisms, such as cryptosporidium and giardia. Additionally the ultrafiltration pore size is small enough to reliably remove smaller matter such as viruses, macro molecules and colloidal matter. Dissolved matter, such as e.g. beneficial minerals are not being retained by the membrane elements.

Applications of Nanofiltration Membranes

Nanofiltration membranes are a relatively recent development, filling a void between two well-established technologies: reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration separation processes. One of the most exciting characteristics of nanofiltration membranes, is their ability to permeate monovalent ions, such as sodium chloride, through the membrane, while rejecting divalent and multivalent ions, such as sodium sulfate. This flexibility opens up many possibilities in the development of specialty process applications across multiple industries.

Nf Applications By Industry:
Concentration and Demineralization of Lactose - Nanofiltration membranes can concentrate and demineralize lactose at the same time, to varying degrees of purification as required by the process.

Dye Concentration - By allowing salts and water to pass through an NF membrane, nanofiltration can be a practical alternative for the concentration and desalination of dyes used in the textile industry.Dye Penetrant Removal - Nanofiltration is widely applied in the recovery of dye in order to meet discharge regulations after penetrant testing with fluorescent dyes.

Seawater Sulfate Removal - Nanofiltration membranes have the ability to selectively remove sulfate found in seawater, important in preventing scaling in oilfield waterflood operations.

Dissolved natural organic matter removal from surface water - Natural organic matter (NOM) can be removed from surface water using nanofiltration to aid in the production of NOM-enriched water or for industrial process water.Landfill Leachate Treatment - As a lower energy alternative, nanofiltration can be used to treat certain landfill leachates by removing pollutants, decreasing TOC and COD levels, and lowering turbidity.

FAQ

Q: What is the function of an compact ultrafltration nembranes element?

A: Compact ultrafltration nembranes element are used where essentially all colloidal particles (including most pathogenic organisms) must be removed, but most of the dissolved solids may pass through the membrane without causing problems downstream or in the finished water. UF will remove most turbidity from water.

Q: What is the difference between filtration and compact ultrafltration nembranes element?

A: Compared with filtration, ultrafiltration also has its own unique characteristics in industrial applications. First of all, ultrafiltration can provide higher filtration precision and purer water quality, so it is widely used in industrial fields with high water quality requirements.

Q: How to make an compact ultrafltration nembranes element?

A: There are many methods of making ultra-thin layers of compact ultrafltration nembranes element, such as interfacial polymerization, monomer catalyst polymerization, and plasma polymerization. The production method of inorganic compact ultrafltration nembranes element usually includes pigment particles, as well as a great investment in production facilities.

Q: How does the compact ultrafltration nembranes element work?

A: Compact ultrafltration nembranes element uses standard home water pressure to push water through a semipermeable membrane and remove any contaminants. Unlike reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration retains minerals in the water, while filtering out bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

Q: What can loose nanofiltration membrane element remove?

A: Loose nanofiltration membrane elementn has found application in removal of chemicals, colorants and total organic carbon (TOC) of water and simultaneous removal of sodium chloride and concentration of organics in the food and pharmaceutical industries (Eriksson (1988)).

Q: Where is loose nanofiltration membrane element used?

A: Desalination of food, dairy and beverage products or by-products. Partial Desalination of whey, UF permeate or retentate as required. Desalination of dyes and optical brighteners.

Q: What are the different types of loose nanofiltration membrane element?

A: Based on the material difference, nanofiltration (NF) membranes are generally divided into two categories, namely, organic (polymeric) and inorganic. Commercial organic NF membranes are used in many industrial applications.
