Foreword

On July 10, 2026, a ceremony marking a new phase in the domestic localization of core seawater desalination equipment in China was grandly held in Tianjin-the "Successful Case Sharing Session on Domestic Substitution of Reverse Osmosis Membranes: Proshare RO Membrane 2025 Product Acceptance & 2026 New Membrane Commissioning Ceremony at Tianjin Dagang Xinquan Seawater Desalination Co., Ltd."

This event was not only an official acceptance of the past year's achievements in domestic membrane applications, but also a launch ceremony for large-scale future deployment. It signifies that leading domestic high-end membrane manufacturers, represented by Proshare, have demonstrated the proven capability to fully replace imported membranes in 100,000-ton-scale commercial seawater desalination projects.

Dagang Xinquan Seawater Desalination Plant, as China's first 100,000-ton-scale membrane-based seawater desalination facility, has been operating steadily for over 15 years since its commissioning in 2009, with a cumulative water supply of nearly 300 million tons. It is widely recognized as an industry benchmark. Its power consumption per ton of water remains stably below 2 kWh, and its water supply price is consistently above 7 RMB/ton, leading the nation in economic performance.

The core of this event was the official acceptance review of the operational data for Proshare Pro-SW seawater desalination membranes installed at the plant in 2025, covering 1,176 units × 2 sets of Pro-SW membranes and 588 units × 2 sets of secondary brackish water membranes. As per the meeting agenda, a representative from Dagang Xinquan presented the acceptance report on-site. The report showed that the domestically produced Proshare membranes demonstrated outstanding performance in key metrics such as high flux, fouling resistance, and operational stability, with cleaning frequency and maintenance costs continuing to decline, confirming successful acceptance. This marks the successful passage of the rigorous "ultimate test" of commercial operation at Dagang Xinquan for domestic membranes.

On the basis of this successful acceptance, the Dagang Xinquan representative immediately announced the official launch of new membrane commissioning for 2026. This signifies that domestic Proshare membranes will move from pilot application to large-scale, comprehensive replacement and deployment, further strengthening Dagang Xinquan's competitive edge in energy consumption and cost, and consolidating its status as "China's most cost-effective seawater desalination project."

Addresses were delivered by Li Qiuyu, General Manager of Lirun Technology; Jia Shijun, General Manager of Dagang Xinquan; and Weng Xiaojun, General Manager of Proshare Technology. The event also featured prominent industry experts, including Guo Youzhi, Chairman of the Water Conservation and Water Treatment Branch of the China Industrial Energy Conservation and Clean Production Association. Additionally, experts and leaders from the Desalination Association, Tianjin Institute of Seawater Desalination, Xianda Seawater, Qingdao Water Affairs, and SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. gathered together to witness this industry milestone and shared valuable insights during the interactive session.

02 Industry Leaders Gather – Live Coverage of the Ceremony

This event was not only a technological gathering, but also a high-level industry exchange. On July 10, after checking in at the Tianjin Binhai Wanda Yuehua Hotel, the attending guests visited the Dagang Xinquan Desalination Plant on the afternoon of the same day, witnessing firsthand the stable operation of domestically produced membranes on the "dual-membrane" process line.

Domestic "Membrane" Power – Breaking the Deadlock

DSCF2203

Stepping into Dagang Xinquan, the most fundamental change lies in the membrane stacks. Proshare TFN seawater desalination membranes have now been fully deployed here, achieving large-scale substitution of imported products. With high flux, strong fouling resistance, and long service life, these domestically produced membranes further reduce operational and maintenance costs on top of low energy consumption-completely breaking the industry's long-standing deadlock of import dependence and low efficiency.

Four-in-One Approach – Setting the Benchmark

The benchmark significance of Dagang Xinquan lies in its establishment of a replicable and scalable "four-in-one" low-carbon development model:

Optimal Water Source: Utilizing low-concentration seawater at the Duliujian River estuary to reduce treatment energy consumption at the source.

Waste Heat Utilization: Coupling with the adjacent Dagang Power Plant, using the plant's cooling water to raise water temperature and enhance membrane flux.

Full Green Power: Achieving full photovoltaic coverage across the plant site, powering the entire production process with clean green electricity.

Domestic Substitution: Fully replacing core equipment with Proshare membranes, achieving improved quality, reduced consumption, and a secure and self-reliant supply chain.

Experts Praise – A Replicable Model

Professor Guo Youzhi emphasized after his inspection that the true value of Dagang Xinquan lies in its replicability. It provides a textbook-grade template for the technological renovation and potential tapping of aging coastal plants nationwide, as well as for green energy-driven carbon reduction and efficiency enhancement through domestic substitution.

From an "aging plant" to an "industry benchmark," from "imported" to "domestically produced" - the partnership between Tianjin Dagang Xinquan and Proshare membranes is injecting a powerful "green core" and "China core" into the high-quality development of China's seawater desalination industry.

03 Core Strengths – The Technological Backbone of Proshare TFN Membranes

Why have domestically produced membranes earned the recognition of an industry benchmark? Behind this lies Proshare's years of deep commitment to technological innovation. As a national high-tech enterprise founded by a team led by Dr. Lin Xiaofeng, a nationally recognized high-level overseas talent, Proshare specializes in the R&D and industrialization of third-generation nanocomposite thin-film (TFN) high-end membranes.

Compared to the second-generation TFC membranes that have long been monopolized by foreign companies, Proshare TFN membranes offer disruptive technological advantages: their separation layer can be as thin as 20 nanometers-just one-fifth the thickness of conventional technologies-resulting in a flux increase of over 30% and a significant reduction in energy consumption. Additionally, its proprietary super-anti-fouling coating delivers exceptional fouling resistance and service life, making it a key enabler of cost reduction and efficiency improvement for large-scale seawater desalination projects.
